Easy Thanksgiving Crafts

Nov 19, 2007 @ 01:04 pm by

If you want to make easy Thanksgiving crafts, the choices you have are really endless when you take the time to think about what you have in mind and then experiment around with different things you have around the house to create your easy Thanksgiving crafts.  If you are not especially creative in this area, just go on the Internet and search for “easy Thanksgiving crafts”.  You will find all sorts of ideas to try.  We’ll give you a couple here to try.

For school-age children, it is fun to make easy Thanksgiving crafts that explore the reason for the season – giving thanks!  First, you need various colors of construction paper.  Cut out various leaf shapes from the paper.  Have your child write things on the leaves that they are thankful for.  Then cut out the inner upper half of a paper plate to form a half circle.  Just below the bottom of the half circle, write the words “I Am Thankful For” and then have your child glue the leaves all around the cut-out.  Then you can hang the thankful wreath wherever you want to!

Other easy Thanksgiving crafts include this one.  What you will need is brown, orange, red, and yellow construction paper, scissors, a marker, a pencil, and some glue.  Trace your child’s footprint on the brown construction paper.  Do not trace their individual toes.  Then, from the other colors, trace around their hand with it laid out and fingers slightly splayed.  Make at least 6 of these, if not more.

If your child is able to, have them cut out their hand and foot prints.  Cut two strips of the brown construction paper and fold accordion style for the legs.  Use the yellow to make some feet for your turkey.  Cut out a small triangle for the turkey’s wattle.  Now it’s time to put your turkey together!

The heel of the foot print will be your turkey’s head.  Arrange the hand prints behind the turkey and glue into place.  Draw a face onto your turkey and glue the red wattle just below the eyes.  Glue on the feet to the legs and then the legs to the body.  After the glue is dry, you have another of the many easy Thanksgiving crafts we have found that can help you commemorate your child’s growing – especially if you do this craft from year to year!  Don’t forget to write the date and your child’s age on the back!

Egg Carton Halloween Crafts

Oct 25, 2007 @ 05:26 pm by

When you are wanting to make home made decorations for various occasions, you might be surprised at what you can do with egg carton crafts.  Whether you are celebrating Easter, Halloween, even Christmas, you can make great egg carton crafts that will celebrate the season and get you involved with your children as you make these cute little decorations.  Here are a few of the egg carton crafts we found to get you started:

For Halloween, one of the great egg cartons crafts you and your children can make is a spooky bat you can hang from the ceiling or from trees outside.  Take a regular, clean egg carton and make sure it is clean.  If you want to hang your bat outside, you may want to choose a Styrofoam one instead of a cardboard one.  Cut out three of the egg cups keeping all three attached side by side.  Take the two outside egg cups and cut out the front and back.  These are your bat wings.  Paint your bat black and then use white paint or glue on googly eyes.  Make a hole in the top of the center egg cup and then a string that has a knot at the end that won’t go through the hole.  Put the string in the hole, hang your bat, and enjoy your creation!

There are lots of other egg carton crafts you can make for other seasons too.  Have you ever thought about making an egg carton caterpillar?  This egg carton craft is really easy and is especially suited for the younger crowd.  Just take a typical dozen egg container and cut in half lengthwise leaving six egg cups together.  Use paint, glitter, or whatever your heart desires to decorate each egg cup.  For the front one, draw on a cute face and use a pipe cleaner to make antennae.  What could be even better?  Don’t call him a caterpillar; call him a bookworm which will encourage children to read more!

Going back to egg carton crafts for Halloween, you can also make a spider from an egg carton cup.   Just separate one cup from the carton.  Using the point of a scissors, an adult should make four small holes on each side of the cup for the legs.  Insert a pipe cleaner into each of the holes twisting it from the inside to secure.  Draw a face on the front and decorate the body and you have an egg carton spider.  You can also paint the cup black as well and then decorate accordingly.

Egg carton crafts are very fun to make, and when you use a little creativity, we’re willing to be you’ll be surprised at what you can create!

Frame Scrapbooking Thanksgiving

Oct 25, 2007 @ 07:15 am by

A big part of scrap booking as a hobby is to utilize different tools to make your pages look great, so when looking for a frame scrapbooking Thanksgiving, choose the one that best evokes the memories of the holiday and the photo that frame will hold.  Frame scrapbooking Thanksgiving gives you many choices that will give you pages a unique look that will express everything that you are thinking and feeling at the time and then you will be able to remember as you look through the book you have created.

Look around in many places to find frame scrapbooking Thanksgiving.  You can find frames of different shapes and sizes online, in scrap book stores, and discount stores like Wal-Mart.  Since you will have lots of different pictures on your page, you will need lots of different frames.  We mentioned you can find frames online which is something that is relatively new to the craft.  There are scrapping web sites that have all sorts of scrap booking tools available for download that you can print out on your home printer.

The key to printing out your scrap booking supplies is to make sure you use the right paper.  It needs to be acid free paper so that your photos do not get damaged over a period of time.  Age can cause photos to fade and even become damaged.  When you use a paper that is not acid free, you risk ruining your photos and ultimately losing them forever.

Be creative when it comes to frame scrapbooking Thanksgiving because it is your originality that makes your scrap pages so special.  Framing your photos can be anything you choose including stickers, cardboard frames, even leaves or dryer lint, if you want!  I like to use glue and glitter to make frames around my photos because it makes them look very “blingy” and unique.  You are only limited by your imagination, so go crazy when making frame scrapbooking Thanksgiving.

Scrapping is very therapeutic for many people and you can really get the chance to express exactly who you are and how you feel about certain events that happen in your life.  Holidays are the perfect time to experiment with scrap booking, so look for ways to frame scrapbooking Thanksgiving in ways that others would not ever think of.  Then when you pull out your scrap books, you will have something you can truly be proud of which is all your own creation!

Egg Carton Bats for Halloween

Oct 24, 2007 @ 09:59 pm by

One of the easiest Halloween crafts that you can make is egg carton bats.  The best part about making this type of craft is that they are easy enough for any age and you can really be creative if you so desire.  There’s nothing better than having a house full of bats to decorate your home for Halloween.  Egg cartons are readily available, and egg carton bats are easy to make and cute at the same time.  Here are two ways to make these cute crafts.

First, take a clean, empty egg carton and cut out three of the cups keeping them attached together.  Cut out the front of the outer two cups.  These are your bat’s wings.  If you want to, you can also cut out the back part of the outer two cups as well.  Paint your bat black.  You can either use white paint for eyes or glue on googly eyes that you can find in any craft store.  The face will go on the center cup.  If you want your bat to look especially sinister, you can also paint on fangs.  Poke a hole in the top of the cup.  Take a string and make a knot in the end of it that will not come through the hole and string through the hole.  Make a lot of these and hang them everywhere for a spooky home!

If you want to use a rubber band to string on your egg carton bats, it can make them especially fun because they can bounce around.  If you use a Styrofoam egg carton and waterproof paint, you can make a lot of these bats and hang them from trees around your home to make your yard look especially decorative.  If you do this, you may want to look into glow-in-the dark googly eyes or use glow in the dark paint that will be really scary at night which is when Halloween is at its scariest!

The great part about making egg carton bats is that they can be made by children of all ages.  Adults will find themselves having just as much fun as children crafting their bats.  Even older children can find enjoyment in this fun craft.  As with any other crafting project, making egg carton bats teaches children a lot of valuable tools that they can take with them to school and in other places.  It encourages creativity and instills pride as they watch a simple egg carton take shape into egg carton bats that they can be proud of!

Fall is a great time of the year for many people, and finding fall craft ideas for preschool kids can make it an even better time of year as you make wonderful decorative crafts with your child.  Even preschoolers can make some memorable and beautiful crafts for fall with a little help from you.  We have a few fall craft ideas for preschool kids that you may want to try with your own child!

Pine cones are aplenty at this time of year, so why not use them as fall craft ideas for preschool kids.  One of the pine cone crafts we found will help our fine feathered friends.  It is a pine cone bird feeder.  Supplies you need include a pine cone, vegetable shortening, oatmeal, bird seed, and some string.  Start by mixing together ½ cup of the shortening with 2 ½ cups oatmeal and mix until well blended.  If you like, you can add in some dried fruit, chopped nuts, or sunflower seeds.  Tie a string to the top of the pine cone and then apply the mixture all around the cone making sure you get it deep inside the openings.  Then, roll the whole thing in bird seed and pat to stick.  Hang from a tree and watch the birds flock to it!

Another of the great fall crafts ideas for preschool kids is to make leaf rubbings.  We have been doing this for years in school and you can make some great rubbings from all sorts of materials.  But when we talk about fall craft ideas for preschool kids, leaf rubbings are especially easy to do with little ones!  Of course, you will need a leaf or several leaves.  Pick them from the tree as ones that have already fallen may come apart.  Take a piece of paper and fold it in half placing the leaf in between the fold with the veined side up.  Use a colored pencil or a crayon to rub over the top of the leaf until it shows clearly on the paper.  Cut out and use in whatever creative way you can come up with.

There are lots of great web sites that offer fall craft ideas for preschool kids.

Edible Halloween Crafts

Oct 23, 2007 @ 04:13 pm by

If you are having a Halloween party, there is nothing more fun to have on hand than edible Halloween crafts.  It’s great for partygoers to nosh on eyeballs, spiders, and other types of edible Halloween crafts.  It not only makes the party fun, but it makes it interesting as well.

Here’s one of our favorite recipes for edible Halloween crafts – Yummy Brains:

Take one package blueberry Jell-O mix and prepare according to directions.  Pour a 16 ounce container of cottage cheese into a bowl. Take a can of blueberries in syrup and drain off the syrup.  Add the blueberries to the cottage cheese and mix well.  Add blue food coloring sparingly to turn the cottage cheese/blueberry mixture to a gray color when mixed together.  To serve, place a scoop of Jell-O on a plate, pour the blueberry syrup over the Jell-O and top with cottage cheese mixture.  MMMM – Yummy Brains!

Are you hungry for more edible Halloween crafts?  How about trying out some creepy eyeballs?  Basically, these are deviled eggs with a black olive in the middle.  In the event you do not know how to make deviled eggs, here’s how.  Take eggs and boil them for about two minutes.  Reduce heat and leave on stove for three more minutes.  Drain off the hot water and then give them a cold bath until they are cooled down.  Peel the eggs and slice them lengthwise.  Scoop out the yolks and mash with a fork until smooth.  If you boil up about half a dozen eggs, you should add about ¼ cup of mayo (adjust to make sure the mixture is creamy but not runny).  Add some prepared mustard and mix well.  Scoop the yolk mixture into the egg whites.  Place a black olive into the center of each yolk and you have some eyeballs ready to eat!

Finally, the best edible Halloween crafts we found is the recipe for Monster Toes or Bloody Fingers.  You’ll first need cocktail wieners.  Cut a wedge into the end of each to make a place for the toe/finger nail.  Cut flour tortillas into 4 inch long by ¾ inch wide strips.  Roll each wiener into a tortilla strip, secure with a toothpick, and place on a cookie sheet.  Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 7 minutes.  After removing from oven, fill the toe/finger nail portion with ketchup and serve.  Ewww, but yummy – all at the same time!

Edible Halloween crafts are fun to make and even more fun to eat.  There are a lot of creative ways to make food into scary edible Halloween crafts – just use your imagination and then enjoy watching your guests eat their scary treats!

Easy Halloween Crafts For Kids

Oct 22, 2007 @ 11:02 pm by

Kids love making crafts, so take the time to look around and find some easy Halloween crafts for kids.  Crafting does not have to be difficult, and you can make easy Halloween crafts for kids with a little imagination, creativity, and some common household items.  There is nothing more fun for kids than to decorate your home with Halloween decorations that they have made themselves.  They will feel pride in what they have created and have fun doing it.  Here are a couple easy Halloween crafts for kids that you may want to try.

We LOVE fun foam that can be purchased at craft stores or department stores.  Buy several sheets in colors of orange, black, green, and white.  Cut out some ovals and circles from various colors.  Look on the Internet for Halloween images that you can print to your personal printer.  Try to find witches, bats, skeletons, and black cats.  You may have to reduce these images to fit onto your base.  If you are especially good at drawing, you can even try to draw your own!  Cut these images out of contrasting fun foam colors and glue onto the shapes you have cut out.  Punch a hole in the top, draw a string through the hole and then hang these fun ornaments anywhere you can think of!

Easy Halloween crafts for kids can even be crafts that are adapted from more difficult crafts.  Want to have scary ghosts hanging from your trees?  Take an ordinary plastic bag you get from the grocery store and cut off the handles.  Place a Styrofoam ball in the top for the head and secure with a rubber band.  Then shred the bottom into strips and poke a hole above the head to insert a string for hanging.  Don’t forget to draw on a scary face!  For extra fun, attach a bell or two to the bottom of the strips so you can hear your ghost “singing” in the wind.

Finally, one of the most easy Halloween crafts for kids might be the most fun.  Buy a few dark colored candles – black preferably – and provide your child with various trinkets like sequins, candy corn, fun foam shapes, or whatever you can think of.  Have them glue these trinkets on the outside of the candle and you have a great Halloween decoration for your home!

Easy Halloween crafts for kids are great ways to get kids interested in crafts and instill a sense of pride as visitors marvel over your great decorations.  They can proudly say, “I made that!”

Coloring Pages of Thanksgiving Family

Oct 22, 2007 @ 09:12 pm by

Thanksgiving is about a lot of things, but mostly, it is about giving thanks for the blessings in our life which is why you may want to find some coloring pages of Thanksgiving family pictures for your child to color and to spark conversation.  You will want to teach your child – especially the little ones – about why we celebrate Thanksgiving.  So, find some coloring pages of Thanksgiving family pictures and while they are coloring, talk to them about what might be going on in the picture.

Discuss with your child why the family in the picture might be giving thanks and what they might be giving thanks for.  Then ask them what they are thankful for.  Tell them what you are thankful for.  Be sure and explain to them what being thankful means and why it is important to acknowledge the blessings in your life.  It is also a good time to tell them how Thanksgiving got started and why we continue to celebrate it today.

You can find lots of coloring pages of Thanksgiving family pictures on the Internet that are free to download and then print from your home computer.  Use your favorite search engine – we prefer Google – and type in “coloring pages of Thanksgiving family”.  The search engine will come up with several places where you can find coloring pages for different holidays including Thanksgiving.  When you look at these pages, pick out the ones you like and then download them to your computer.  Then print them out and let your child go wild!

Another advantage to coloring pages of a Thanksgiving family is that you can also use them as templates for craft projects you may want to do.  They can be used to follow as a diagram for some type of craft or incorporated into a collage or picture that you want to display on the holiday.  A good way to incorporate coloring pages of a Thanksgiving family is to have your child color several different ones and then make them into placemats.  Just glue the picture onto a larger piece of paper and you have a placemat.  To make them even more durable, you may want to laminate them too.  Laminating machines can be purchased quite inexpensively these days.  If you are a big crafter, it can be a great investment!

Look around the Internet for the right coloring pages of a Thanksgiving family for your child to color or for you to use in your crafting projects.  Then enjoy the creation and the holiday as well!
